Ranjha, an idealistic man sets off from home to meet and win her heart of the famed beauty - Heer, who falls in love with the music of his flute. Heer's family gets her married to someone else while Ranjha becomes a hermit. The two lovers manage to run away. when atlast Heer's father gives permission for them to marry. Heer's brother and her jealous lame uncle, Kaidu plot together to keep heer and ranjha apart forever. they give heer a drink laced with poison. two days later when ranjha comes with marriage procession, he hears of her death and dies by her grave.
SAIF-UL-MULOK
a moving tale of one man's ardent love for a beautiful woman. Saifulmulok, a prince from Iran had heard of the dazzling brilliance of the queen of the kaghan mountainz. he leaves his home to meet her. but the only way he could her was to look at her reflection in the lake at night. so the prince sat there for dayz and nights just gazing at her reflection, till he breathed his last. Legend says that on his death he became part of the lake so that he cud be his love foreva. The lake saif-ul-mulok is named after him.
SOHNI AND MAHIWAL
A tale of enduring love set on the banks of river chenab. Sohni, as beautiful as her name, falls in love with mahiwal, a merchant prince from a distant land and they pledge their lives to eachother. sohni's family forces her to marry someone else but she continues to meet mahiwal across the river. using her earthen pot to swim . one fate-ful day sohni's suspicious sister in law finds out about their meeting and in anger she replaces her pot with an unbaked one. unaware sohni goes to meet mahiwal when in the middle of river her pot dissolves. hearing her cries mahiwal jumps in the river but they are both swept away by the waters of the chenab.
